Beyond the Classroom:
Empowering Hearts and Minds through Community Service at Eunice High School
At Eunice High School, the commitment to education extends far beyond the confines of the classroom. It’s a commitment rooted in the belief that empowering young women goes hand in hand with fostering a sense of social responsibility.
Community service is not just an extracurricular activity at Eunice; it’s a core element of the school’s ethos, shaping the character, compassion, and global perspective of its learners.
The Greenheart foundation at school is involved in a variety of fundraisers, donations and outreach projects.
Term 1 fundraisers included:
– The Bloem Shelter Pancake Friday where 956 pancakes were sold in aid of Bloem Shelter.
– The CANSA Shavathon was great fun and the teachers and girls had their hair sprayed in support of this worthy cause.
– Cup cake bake sale to raise funds for the foundation.
Donation drives:
– Hygiene products for Bayswater Care
– Spread your Love Girly Tuesday where hygiene and sanitary items were collected.
– Stationery items for Angel Arms.
Every Friday the Greenheart foundation has a community outreach.
Outreaches in Term 1:
– Huistoe Animal Welfare: Learners spent time with the animals and donated 40kg of dog food and 20kg of cat food.
– Sunflower House: Our volunteers spent time playing with the kids and babies and we donated milk, breakfast cereal, toiletries and toys.
– Bayswater Care: All the products donated were distributed to the elderly during the visit.
– Bloem Shelter: Created bracelets, baked cookies and just spent some time with the residents.
Eunice tries to make a difference in the environment and has 10 recycling bins on the school grounds. We encourage girls to take pride in their environment.
Every term the girls (16 years and older) participate in a Blood donation drive at school.
They are always eager to donate blood in order to save lives.
As Eunice continues to foster a culture of giving, it leaves an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of its learners. Creating a community of empowered individuals who recognise their capacity to make the world a better place—one act of service at a time.
