In groundbreaking news, Sekhobo Wa Ha Moshe, a renowned Sotho poet, translator, and writer from Bloemfontein, has been nominated for the prestigious Mzansi Arts and Media Awards in the category of Best Poet. This achievement comes hot on the heels of the publication of his third book, “Mpho ya Matsale”, just a few months ago.
Moshe’s creative journey began in 2008 while he was still in high school. Although he wasn’t surrounded by like-minded individuals who shared his passion for writing, he later joined an arts and creative writing production company in 2014. This marked a turning point, as he met fellow artists who ignited his passion, leading him to write poems, novels, and short stories that were even featured on radio.
His accolades include winning his first award at the Macufe Festival in 2017 and representing the Free State at the Grahamstown National Festival in 2018 and 2019. “So I represented Free State in two consecutive years whilst performing my poems in Sesotho,” he shared. In addition to this, the nomination and book [Mpho Ya Matsale] publication within a short period of time has Bloemfontein residents’ hearts filled with exhilaration.
“I love being an author because as an author or artist, you can teach, comfort, caution, guide and advise people,” he added.
His ultimate goal is to travel the world and solidify his reputation as a great artist. With his talent and dedication, Bloemfontein residents and supporters are eagerly awaiting his win at the Mzansi Arts and Media Awards, as he continues to inspire many young artists.
